Trish Nelson
Trisha started learning in Oregon, United States from her elementary school piano teacher (Collette Fallon) at age 5. With much love and encouragement from her family, piano became a passion in her life. It was easy to see that she loved to perform, and was quickly placed in several annual performing events such as Junior Festival and Syllabus.
After 7 years, many ribbons and gold cups, Collette had decided that Trish was becoming too advanced to teach and referred her to Don Lehmann. Don was a very highly regarded classical pianist who had taken from the same teacher as Horrowitz once upon a time, and often spoke of his greatest teacher Alexander Raab. Although he did not hold recitals and kept himself a very hidden, quiet man, Trish fell in love with his methods of teaching and followed his every word up until college.
Trish always stayed an active member in choir from 7th grade (age 12) through college, and was normally appointed section leader and choir accompanist on piano. Due to choir sectionals, she had discovered how much she truly loved teaching. As soon as she turned 18 and graduated high school, she was soon hired in Washington to teach at Jodi's School of Music. The owner of the school flew her to Indianapolis, Indiana to get her Mayron Cole teaching certificate which enabled her to teach the Mayron Cole method in group as well as private lessons.
Once Trish started studying music at Clark College, she quit teaching at the school and moved out on her own in Washington, forming Trish Nelson Studio; her own business at the age of 21. While at Clark, she received the Edda Mccormick Foundation Scholarship for every term she attended, received 4 OSWALD awards for music and orchestra, as well as studied with well known piano teachers Dr. Kathy Charles and Joanna Hodges. While running her own business, Trish always stayed involved with the National Federation of Music Clubs, and placed her students in Junior Festival and Solo Ensemble every year.
In June of 2009, Trish said goodbye to her full studio of students and moved to Wellington, NZ in hopes of teaching piano again. She is so excited and honoured to be working with us at Good Time Music Academy.
